David Emmert
Bio-
David Emmert is a ceramic artist who creates both functional and sculptural artworks. His artistic passion and abilities were fostered at a young age. He started sculpting, coil building and wheel throwing in elementary school. His preparatory years were capped by receiving 4 silver keys for his Scholastic Art Senior Portfolio. Emmert continued his education at both Thiel College and Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He won several awards his senior year at Edinboro including Ceramic Department Outstanding Award upon graduation.
David continued working with clay both as an artist and educator relocating in Amherst Virginia. Teaching helped evolve his understanding and technical capabilities of ceramics artworks. Emmert continued to show his artworks in juried, group, and solo exhibitions. He also curates a national exhibition “The Battle of the Bowls” which celebrates contemporary ceramic achievements. Throughout his years working with clay he has explored wood-fired and salt kiln building, soda firing, stoneware, terracotta, low-fire earthenware, cone six glazes, wood-fired porcelain, sculpture and multiple functional forms. This thorough background is thanks to all those educators that guided him, mentors that shared their knowledge, and family that supported his passion.
